This recipe was filched from the front cover of the July 2004 South Australia newsletter. Perhaps someone will send more information about Grandma Menadue -- she sounds wonderful!
  • 4oz Butter
  • l egg
  • 4oz castor sugar
  • 1 tspn vanilla
  • 6ozs s.r.flour
  • blanched almonds
  • Melt butter and cook until golden, cool slightly.
  • Add sugar and beat well then beat in egg and vanilla.
  • Add flour and mix well.
  • Roll into walnut size balls.
  • Place on baking tray (I use baking paper underneath), press down with a fork and press half an almond on top.
  • Bake 170 degrees until golden.
  • Makes approx 3 dozen.
